Phoenix Global Marijuana March on May 4tTH at 4:20PM
The march aims to educate people about the medicinal and therapeutic benefits of cannabis, protests the prohibition of marijuana, and encourages people to sign pro-pot petitions. If you believe you should have the right, as a responsible adult American, to choose a safer recreational alternative to alcohol or a safer medication than prescription drugs, please show up. Please bring supporters and start gathering at the park as early as 3:30 p.m. Protesters at the Phoenix Global Marijuana March should make signs advertising the benefits of marijuana. The history of marijuana prohibition in this country goes back to the 1930s, when Henry Anslinger, Assistant Prohibition Commissioner in the Bureau of Prohibition (precursor to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) signed the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937.

An Arizona court has upheld a decision that allows the state to prosecute Arizona drivers for driving under the influence of marijuana even if there is no evidence that they have been smoking pot. According to a report from the Arizona Republic, the Court of Appeals upheld the right for law enforcement to charge a patient enrolled in the Arizona Medical Marijuana program (AMMA) for DUI from a traffic stop in Maricopa County in 2010. The court said the state’s legislature created the state’s DUI laws to “protect public safety,” so the court claimed it had a responsibility to interpret the statute “broadly,” and thus include both inactive and active chemical compounds found in marijuana. The court claims that active as well as inactive will now apply. Yet another blow against patients in the medical marijuana community and a win for the private prison system state. Marijuana patient traveling from California, Colorado, Oregon and Washington may avoid the state’s bizarre laws entirely by driving around it. Also residents that use Marijuana (over 30,000 patients), may soon leave the state if the law is not repealed. “It’s another attack against our medical marijuana program and it must be repealed.” says Rain Baker.

Stacey Theis explains that Chris Martin and the others are not just charged with selling pot — they’re charged with selling a “narcotic.” As New Times pointed out in Arizona law has long defined “cannabis” as the resin extracted from marijuana plants, and “cannabis” is deemed a “narcotic” that merits higher penalties under ARS 13-3405 Arizona’s outdated contradictory narcotics law. This law assumes marijuana is still a dangerous schedule 1 narcotic substance. In a recent poles this week among U.S. voters,70% are getting tried of the war on drugs and that it’s time for marijuana to be removed as a schedule 1 drug.
